Dedicated to the memory of Del

This site is a tribute to Del. He is much loved and will always be remembered.

Del was born on 16th June 1945, in Amersham, Buckinghamshire, the second of two children to his parents Ernie and Ethel Gough who named him Derrick Clifford.

He grew up in Enfield area of North London, with his brother Rex, and as a boy developed a huge love of Tottenham Hotspur Football Club.

The other great love in Del’s life growing up was that of music, his brother played in a band, and Del developed a great love of playing the drums.

One of Del’s first bands was a band called Steve Douglas and the Challengers, who later became the Prophets. When Steve Douglas & Freddie Fields left the band they became Tuesday’s Children and were signed to EMI in 1966.

Throughout late 1966 and early 1967 they had three singles all of which reached the Top 40.  The Band had another rename and became the progressive rock band in the 1970s called Czar.

When he left the music scene, he went back to working along with his own father as a butcher and worked along with his dad at Edgleys, which became Wests and later Dewhurst’s.

Del met and married Ann, and they had two children together in Mac and Vicky.  In 1987 following many happy holidays and a desire for a change the family moved to Paignton, and Del transferred to taking a job at Exeter’s Branch of Dewhurst.

He also left Dewhurst and then worked for Fermoy’s Garden Centre as their outside manager at Ipplepen, and his large job was working at Tesco in Barton, here in Torquay as a manager.

In later years he met Christine and Del and Chris were together on and off for about 30 years.

Del has three grandchildren Bethany, Grant and Kimberly, and one great-grandchild in Harley-Rose. Del was always very close to Chris’ sons, Simon and Alan and their families and children.

Del’s hobbies and interests included fishing, his aquarium, his cars and model trains.

Del was a very knowledgeable man, hard-working, very practical, a talented musician, and a man who put 100% into anything that he chose.
